About the Game

RESTINCT is a collection of short-play games that focus on three characters, tortured by their own perception of reality. The player must attempt to see from each’s point of view by experiencing the character’s perspective, in the form of a mini-game. RESTINCT is game that deals with consciousness, and the restraints and affects it has on its host’s more instinctive natures.

RESTINCT Open Development Case Studies was an exhibition testing the relationship between the observer and the observed. From September 8th to October 27th we opened doors to visitors to playtest RESTINCT as we developed it live at Columbia College’s IAM Department Project Room once a week. The exhibit held 7 computers featuring 3 puzzles associated with the case studies that are part of the bigger RESTINCT overworld. Throughout the weeks we updated the game builds based on observations during weekly live workshop sessions and feedback left in journals by visitors. The exhibit was an experiment in interactive playtesting which ultimately provided a wealth of dynamic feedback that could not have been achieved in a traditional playtest session.
